popcorn the mini pig, cincinnati

hi, i'm popcorn!

Hi friend, I’m Popcorn, The Queen City Piggy! I’m training to become a Certified Animal Therapist. I’m always traveling around the city like every spoiled piggy should. Every time I’m out, I get to meet people of all ages and from all different backgrounds. Did you know that the human-animal bond is a mutually beneficial relationship? I hope that by letting people play with me, I’m positively influencing their health and well-being, too.

our mission statement:

Queen City Piggy + Pals is a non-profit corporation with the mission to promote health and happiness, for all species, through the brilliant human-animal bond. Popcorn is an assisted therapy pig in training, who offers assisted animal therapy, education, and activities to the community. With the ultimate goal to open and run a vegan sanctuary, where both animals and people come and find hope and healing, we offer animal assisted therapy and humane education to the Greater Cincinnati area.

faq

Why is your name Popcorn?
Because popcorn is my favorite snack! When I’m learning a new skill or trick, I get popcorn as a special treat. Yum!

How old are you?
I was born on September 14, 2018.

How big will you get?
All ‘mini’ pigs have the potential to weigh up to 300lbs. Please know that micro, teacup, and micro mini pigs don’t exist - they are marketing terms used to scam people out of thousands of dollars which ultimately leave (too) many pigs homeless due to their unexpected size. It’s estimated that I’ll about 100lbs, and between 12-16 inches tall. Pigs don’t stop growing until around five, so we will have to wait and see if those estimations are right!

Do you really live indoors?
Sure do! While I love playing outside, I’m an indoor pig.

Where do you poop?
I’m litter boxed trained, like a cat! But instead of kitty litter, I potty on equine pellets.

Where do you sleep?
With my human mommy, of course! I am a great little spoon.

What do you eat?
Did you know that pigs are actually picky eaters? It’s true! I eat pellets formulated for mini pigs for breakfast and dinner, and love produce for lunch. Have you seen me eat a banana? If not, you really should.

What does your family eat?
They are vegan. Also, bacon jokes aren’t funny. Pigs are sentient beings that experience a fully range of emotions and feel pain.

Are you training to be a Certified Therapy Animal? Why?
I am! The human-animal bond is a mutually beneficial relationship between people and animals that positively influences the health and well-being of both species. When one of my human brothers was admitted in PICU as an infant, a therapy animal came to visit him at the hospital. This visit touched my human mom’s heart deeply, so this is her way of giving back what she received. I’m working hard on my training every single day until my first birthday, when I can be officially certified!
